Green Opportunities Fund 2026: £2.2 Million Grant Supporting Youth Green Careers in the UK


The Co-op Foundation and Co-op have launched a £2.2 million funding initiative to support young people in the UK pursuing green careers. The Green Opportunities Fund aims to bridge the green skills gap by empowering organizations that inspire, educate, and equip youth with sustainable skills.


About the Fund


The fund addresses the growing need for skilled individuals in renewable energy, conservation, sustainable agriculture, and green technology. It prioritizes initiatives that engage young people (14-20 years) and provide practical skills for green careers.


Eligibility


UK-based organizations, including charities, Community Interest Companies, co-operatives, and Community Benefit Societies, can apply.


Funding Focus


The fund supports projects that:

- Develop green skills and awareness

- Promote sustainable career pathways

- Engage young people in environmental initiatives

Aga Khan sells Nation Media Group

  The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) has agreed to sell its 100% stake in Nation Media Group (NMG) to Taarifa Ltd, a company owned by Tanzanian businessman Rostam Azizi. Azizi has businesses in media, mining, telecoms, agriculture, and more. AKFED says the sale marks the end of its 66-year association with NMG, which started in 1959. The buyer plans to invest in NMG's digital growth and support its journalism tradition. The deal should wrap up in 3-4 months, pending approvals. Taarifa Ltd won't buy out other NMG shares or delist the company from securities exchanges. NMG is listed on Nairobi, Uganda, Dar es Salaam, and Rwanda stock exchanges. The Aga Khan founded NMG to promote a free press in Kenya.
